Do I need a Diagnosis first?
The Work
01 / 13
No. If you already know the problem, this is where to start.
The Diagnosis is for when you don’t, or when you think you do and want to be certain before you spend.
If I start making and the problem turns out to be a different one, I’ll say so. I’d rather lose the making than sell you the wrong thing.
A finished creative answer, not a recommendation for somebody else to make.
I develop the idea, message, direction and look, then make or direct the work it needs to become real.
Depending on the project, that could be a campaign, brand, film, website, product idea or a system that connects several of them.
No.
Tell me what’s not working and what needs to happen.
You don’t need to decide whether that means a campaign, a rebrand, a film or something else.
Working out what the creative answer needs to be is my part.
The idea comes first.
Once we’re clear on the problem, I develop the creative concept with you, then we work out what that idea needs to become.
That might be a campaign, a brand, a film, a website, a product idea, or a system made up of several parts.
We choose the format because it serves the idea, not because it was decided before we started.
Then we start there.
I’ll sense-check it with you first, just to make sure the creative work is solving the right thing.
If it holds, we move straight into the idea and the work.
We agree the problem, who needs to move, and what needs to change.
You give me the useful context and anything that already exists.
I sense-check the starting point with you, then I start developing the idea.
I develop the idea and build out how it should work across the brand.
I can take that through art direction, messaging, visual routes, storyboards, mockups and key executions.
If the work needs specialist craft, I bring in the right independent people and work with them directly.
If it doesn’t, I keep the team small.
Less than you’re used to.
I need you at the start, to tell me the truth about what’s happening, and at a few points to decide.
I don’t need you in a weekly status meeting watching a chain of people pass your work along. There isn’t a chain.
Depends on the form.
A single line is fast. A brand or a campaign built properly is not.
I’ll tell you the real timeline before I start, and I won’t pad it to look busy.
The Work starts at £12,000.
That is for a substantial creative problem where there is enough to solve, shape and build.
The fee covers developing the idea, message, direction and creative system, then taking it far enough to make it real.
If you only need a smaller standalone piece of creative work, I can price that separately.
How much creative work the project needs.
A focused campaign idea is a different amount of work from building a brand idea and developing it across film, social, digital and physical spaces.
I agree my fee with you before we start. If we bring in independent talent or production, you agree and pay those costs directly. I don’t add a markup or take a cut.
No. Separate on purpose.
The Diagnosis finds the problem. The Work makes the answer.
Keeping them apart is how I stay honest, because it means I never recommend making something just because making is what I sell.
